Our Story

Over the past 25 years, Chris Suser has worked to build and refine The Mower Man® into the profitable, respected business it is today. After serving in Operation Desert Storm as a member of the U.S. Navy SEABEES Construction Force building hospitals, roads and landing strips in support of our troops, he returned home to Maryland with a dream of growing the small engine repair business he started right out of college. He attended the manufacturers’ technical schools, build a technical support network, got his Maryland Home Improvement Contractor License and started to develop his administrative infrastructure. Chris’s uncompromising quality standards and reliability set him apart from the competition. The Mower Man®’s popularity grew quickly, allowing Chris to take calculated risks in order to foster growth opportunities. There were glitches to be worked out, and learned from, along the way, but today The Mower Man is truly thriving – and GROWING.

Part of this growth is represented in its “At Your Home Services®” division. Chris recognized the opportunity to expand into home improvement services was a natural fit and a great way to diversify his business. He had already earned their trust and they readily offered their business to him. In doing so, Chris has significantly increased profitability while addressing the seasonal nature of the small engine repair. Customers are thrilled to have access to the same trusted team for home improvement services that they count on for their small engines.

Offering service contracts is a win-win relationship for both clients and The Mower Man®. Mowers, snow blowers, generators and all of those small, yet critical engines are kept in ideal working order so they are ready when a client needs them. The Mower Man benefits from year-round income generation that helps eliminate the financial highs and lows of what was a seasonal business.

The next chapter promises to be the most exciting and ambitious yet. The goal is expansion, but in typical Suser-style there is a twist that takes us beyond just increased future profits. Being a war veteran himself, Chris realized the type of work he is able to offer is ideal for a returning service man or woman. First and foremost, he wants to offer these heroes a real opportunity to learn how to be successful business people – not ask them to be grateful for underpaid work that underutilizes their unique skill set. He knows the technical and leadership experiences learned in the military are a perfect fit for The Mower Man and its customers. As a result, he is building an opportunity that would offer an exclusive territory, marketing, paid training, mentorships, technical and administrative support, along with help in setting up a properly outfitted work vehicle. The goal is to empower these veterans to become profitable entrepreneurs and give them access to the American Dream.
